Dial are back in action this evening (21 August) when Steve Brown assembles a side to face our landlord, Knphill, in a pre-season friendly at Surrey Sports Park. 7:45pm.

After another excellent pre-season showing against Sheerwater on Saturday (18 July) at Eastwood Leisure Centre, which Dial were unfortunate to lose, tonight's opponents are again expected to be challenging for promotion from the Combined Counties Football League Premier Division South (step 5) after building on the fulcrum the squad that finished just outside the play-offs last season.

For The Knappers, today is their fourth pre-season friendly, having previously played Dorking Wanderers (Academy), Bedfont Sports, and Horsham YMCA. Under the managerial guidance of Mike Woolgar and new chairman James Carpenter, the west Woking side remains quietly confident that it can excel on-and-off-the-field this season.

It's the third consecutive year that Dial have played Knaphill in pre-season fixture, culminating in a win for both sides. Brown will again use the opportunity to look at one or two players that have not yet been signed, with several fan favourites from last season having already put pen to paper for the forthcoming campaign.

Speaking to DialSquareFC.com, Brown remains upbeat regarding how well the new group have bonded, with some pre-season results not necessary reflecting the endeavour and quality of the performances to date. He said: "Although we've had players away at different times over the summer, when we've had the core of the squad available, we've performed well.

"When you make seven to eight changes - to give players minutes - it's always going to unsettle the side, but that's what pre-season is for: to trial players and to look at players in different positions.

"The number of games will increase significantly this season compared to previous years, so its important to have a big squad and for all players to be fit so they can hit the ground running when our league season starts on 8 August," he added.

Brown is positive about the progress the club has made over the past six weeks, which he believes will serve Dial well at step 6 of the National league System.
