BANSTEAD'S RESIGNATION MOVES THE DIAL

BANSTEAD'S RESIGNATION MOVES THE DIAL

Marc Brewer30 Apr - 03:02

League season dealt fresh blow

The Surrey Premier County Football League has been thrown into turmoil following Banstead Rovers' decision to resign from the league with immediate effect.

It means that Rovers, who were struggling to field a side and meet their administrative obligations, have had their league record expunged for the 2024/25 season.

The Ewell based club's resignation, which was accepted by the league on 29 April 2025, has had a notable impact on member clubs' league standing, points tally, and goal difference. As such, Dial's 4-1 win over Rovers on 15 February has been chalked off and our scheduled fixture against them on 10 May has been removed from the fixture list.

In an email to member clubs late on Tuesday (29 April), Oliver Ellery, League Secretary for the Surrey Premier County Football League, confirmed: "In accordance with League Rule 22(D), when a team withdraws before completing 100% of its scheduled fixtures, their playing record must be expunged from the competition.

"Banstead Rovers completed 22 of their 28 league fixtures, and therefore their results will be removed from the Premier Division table. This includes all points gained and goals scored in their matches," he added.

News of Rovers' withdrawal now means that Dial realistically need four points from their last two fixtures (as opposed to four points from three fixtures) against Worcester Park (2 May) and Wimbledon Casuals (8 May) to leapfrog AFC Walcountians in the table to secure promotion.
