Now 37, the former Knaphill, Abbey Rangers and Godalming Town midfielder/defender, takes up the post ahead of Dial’s opening Southern Combination Football League Division One fixture against East Preston this Saturday (8 August).

He replaces Mike Kinsella, who stepped down as Steve Brown’s number 2 in May due to work and family commitments, coupled with the travelling commitments required being in, predominately, an East and West Sussex league.

Norman’s football acumen and vocal presence will be a welcome addition to a five-strong football management team, which, along with Brown, includes coaches Jake Kennett and Andy Rider (when available), as well as physiotherapist Sandy Xaferri.

He is still expected to take a lead role on-the-field and with set-pieces, having represented Dial 24 times last season during the club’s promotion-winning campaign.

Speaking of Norman’s appointment, Brown said: “I’ve known Jimmy for a long time. We know how each other tick, and he knows what’s required at this level of football, having played at step 5 and 6 for most of his non-league career.

“There are a lot of unknowns with the Southern Combination [Football League], including grounds that many of the players have never been to before, so it’s important that we have a real presence around the club to keep the players focused and on-the-front-foot.

“We must ensure that we remain competitive now we’re part of the football pyramid, and Jimmy will help us to achieve that and to kick-on,” he added.
