BROWN: NO STONE LEFT UNTURNED

BROWN: NO STONE LEFT UNTURNED

Andy Fitzsimons6 Apr - 05:10

Dragons' slip-up could see Dial promoted.

Dial can finally clinch promotion today (6 April) if they can beat neighbours Addlestone away in the Surrey Premier County Football League (SPCFL).

With fellow-promotion chasers (applicants) CB Hounslow & Abbots losing 3-1 away at Keens Park Rangers on Saturday (4 April), a win against The Stones today will guarantee Dial a top-five finish (needed for promotion) with three league games remaining.

Despite sweeping changes proposed by The FA to step 6 of the National League System (NLS) - to increase the number of divisions from 17 to 24 - the new geographical-friendly structure is not likely to be introduced until the 2027/28 season. Therefore, only one promotion place is up for grabs from each of the regional feeder leagues (step 7), subject to applicant clubs' finishing position and ground grading.

With none of Wimbledon Casuals, Battersea Ironsides, Worcester Park nor Keens Park Rangers eligible for promotion, Dial will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of Staines & Lammas (Middlesex) who gained promotion to division one of the Combined Counties Football League from the SPCFL after finishing third at the end of the 2023/24 season.

Following back to back wins in the Surrey FA Saturday Intermediate County Cup (3-0) and league (7-0) last month, Brown has assembled another strong side for the trip to Jubilee High School this morning, which could result in a quasi four-man attack, with Charlie Marshall expected to lead the line in place of injured marksman Adam Bicknell, who netted five goals against The Stones last month.

Defender Callum Abraham-Barlow is again available for selection after missing the league cup and league fixtures against Wimbledon Casuals and Worcester Park, while Brad Sweeney is also expected to come straight into the squad to bolster Dial's attacking options. However, there is no place for Aidan Doran, who is unavailable for today's league outing.

Speaking to DialSquareFC.com yesterday (5 April), Brown said: "Monday [today] is a huge game for us. If we win, it's mathematically impossible for CB Hounslow [& Abbots] to catch us, which guarantees us a top-five finish.

"Addlestone had a good win against Tooting & Mitcham United U23s on Saturday (4 April), which moves them five points clear of the relegation zone. However, I'm not expecting them to roll over and let us play today; they will naturally want to avenge their recent cup exit and heavy league defeat.

"While we have a few players away, it's good to have many more available for the trip to Addlestone. The boys know what's on the table, so hopefully they can do the club proud and secure the three points needed," he added.

There is no admission charge for today's fixture. Furthermore, no dogs are permitted into the grounds of Jubliee High School, except for service dogs. Free parking is available onsite. You can plan your journey here.
