CLASH OF THE TITANS

Dial seek revenge after home defeat

Dial travel to promotion rivals AFC Walcountians tonight (4 March) in what could be make or break for Steve Brown's side, who are seeking their fourth consecutive promotion.

Dubbed a six-pointer, a win for Dial at The Reg Madgwick Stadium would close the gap on The Counts to just one-point and with four games in hand.

The hosts are currently the top scorers in the Surrey Premier County Football League, with an average return of almost three (2.9) goals per game, while Dial are close behind with 2.82 gpg.

Since ending Dial's two-year unbeaten (league) home record on 18 January, The Counts have won four, drawn one and lost one, scoring 17 league goals in the process but keeping just one clean sheet.

By comparison, Dial have only played twice in the league over the same period, losing 1-0 to AFC Cubo (at Royal Holloway Sports Centre) and beating Banstead Rovers 4-0 at Alwyns Lane. The shortfall in fixtures has seen Dial lose ground in the championship race, albeit with games in hand over the top-two clubs.

Brown is expected to have a full quota of players available for the trip to Cobham, with Jordan Carter, Charlie Marshall, Aidan Doran, Adam Aziz and Balai Antonio Dembele all likely to be named in the sixteen-man squad after missing Dial's county cup quarter-final clash against Parkside on Saturday (! March). New signing Ryan Bell could also make his competitive debut for The Dial.

Speaking to DialSquareFC.com on Monday, Brown said: "The players know that a lot hinges on this fixture [v AFC Walcountians]. If they can't get up for a game like this, they shouldn't be on the pitch.

"When we last played Walcountians, we should have put the game beyond sight in the first half with the chances we had, so we need to learn from that and be clinical in front of goal.

"We were down on personnel on Saturday [v Parkside], so it will be nice to have some key players back. It won't be easy to pick a starting eleven; regardless, we need to move through the gears quickly and get on the front foot. Everyone needs to be on it to win it," he added.
