Brown looking for Dial to maintain their form ahead of cup final

Dial play host to Lightwater United at Alwyns Lane this evening (11 April 2024) in the Surrey County Intermediate League (Western) Premier Division. 7:30pm k.o.

After one false start last month (March) due to a waterlogged pitch, both sides will be pleased to get the game on as the season draws to a close.

A win for Steve Brown’s side this evening could see Dial again move 19 points clear of AFC Spelthorne Sports at the top of the table, while United will be looking to bounce back from their disappointing 3-1 Premier Challenge (League) Cup semi-final defeat against Milford & Witley at the weekend.

United’s backlog of fixtures now means they have two games scheduled in May; 10 days after the league season was due to end, with the possibility of still achieving a top-six finish in the table if results go their way.

The last time Dial played United was at Lightwater Leisure Centre on 23 September 2023, which saw Dial come from behind to win 2-1 thanks to second-half goals from Dave Porcher and Harry Rice.

Brown is expected to name a strong side for the visit of The Blues, with striker Charlie Marshall, Connor Auns, Sam McDermaid and Sam Jennings all back in contention. Experienced shot-stopper Richard Ossai will also replace Andy Rider in goal due to a one-match absence, while Louie Rogers and James Vass both remain doubtful.

For supporters and football enthusiasts travelling to Alwyns Lane by train, the nearest rail station is Chertsey, which is a c. 15-minute walk (via Guildford Street and Windsor Street) to the ground (map). Please check South Western Railway’s live timetable here prior to departure.

For those travelling by car, Alwyns Lane football ground offers very limited parking, which is principally for players and match officials. Therefore, spectators are asked to park with consideration in the neighbouring residential streets.

No pitch inspection is required.
