DIAL EYE-UP SECOND SEMI-FINAL DRAW

DIAL EYE-UP SECOND SEMI-FINAL DRAW

Andy Fitzsimons6 Feb - 06:01

Boss Brown taking nothing for granted against minnows

Dial will be hoping to reach their second semi-final when they step out against Horsell tonight (6 Feb) in the Surrey FA Saturday Intermediate Cup at Ascot United.

Due to Horsell's home ground in West End (Woking) being unavailable, and the pitch at Ockham Cricket Club being waterlogged, the cup match was switched to The Racecourse Ground (Ascot) at 8:30pm last night.

Having already beaten Parkside (6-0), Worplesdon Phoenix (6-1) and Tonghan (6-0), this evening's trip to East Berkshire is the third consecutive county cup tie away from home and the second at a neutral venue due to the weather.

After gaining promotion from the Guilford & Woking Alliance Football League last season, Horsell have fared well in their inaugural season in the Surrey Intermediate County League (Western) Football League, and will go top of the table if they win their games in hand.

It's perhaps no surprise therefore that the Woking-based side have already beaten Dorkinians Reserves (2-1), Laleham (2-1) and Walton & Hersham 'B' (2-1) en route to the quarter-finals. They're also the reigning Surrey FA Saturday Junior County Cup holders after beating Trenham 4-3 in last season's final.

Brown is expected to keep faith with the mainstay of the squad that lost 4-1 to Tooting & Mitcham United U23s last Saturday. Although, Samuel Bello-Balogun, Danny Taylor and Salvatore Federico will all be unavailable due to competition rules.

Also out are Bradley Sweeney, Harry Rice, Charlie Marshall (injured), Aidan Doran, Louie Rogers, Ross Ewen, Harry Laflin and Darren Xavier, while Matt Hayes will undergo a late fitness test on his ankle. Tom Adag, George Lawrence and Ben Vassell are expected to return to the squad.

There is no admission charge for this quarter-final county cup fixture. Furthermore, no dogs are permitted into The Racecourse Ground, except for assistance dogs. Free parking is available onsite, and the clubhouse bar will be open for spectators.

In the other quarter-final ties (scheduled for this weekend), Keens Park Rangers will host Surrey Intermediate County League Premier Division side Hambledon, while Addlestone entertain FC Battersea Ironsides in the all Surrey Premier County Football League clubs' tie. Elsewhere, Worcester Park will welcome Frenches Athletic, who now ply their trade in the Mid Sussex Football League Premier Division.
