Brown keen to build on midweek result

Dial will move back to the top of the table if they can beat Frenches Athletic at Alwyns Lane this afternoon (8 March). 2pm k.o.

It's the first meeting between the two clubs after the away fixture was postponed in October due to a waterlogged pitch at The Hybrid Fitness Stadium (home of Merstham F.C.).

Prior to beating title-chasers Worcester Park 2-0 at home last Saturday, The French have struggled for form, after six defeats and one draw in all competitions.

Former Dial Square frontman, Lewis Afflick, is again expected to lead the line for The French. Afflick scored Dial's first competitive goal in the 4-4 draw against Virginia Water's development squad during the 2020/21 season, which was later chalked out due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Meanwhile, Dial will be looking to build on their 3-2 win over league leaders AFC Walcountians in midweek with the signing of 26-year-old defender Callum Abrahams-Barlow, who was once on the books of Aldershot Town.

Dial boss Steve Brown is expected to keep faith with 10 of the 11 that started against AFC Walcountians, with Ben Vassell likely to come for debutant Ryan Bell who is unavailable for today's game. Brown will also have to make do without Adam Bicknell, who has signed for Surrey Premier County Football Leaque rivals Cranleigh.

Speaking to DialSquareFC.com on Thursday (6 March), Brown side: "We have given ourselves an excellent chance to gain promotion after beating AFC Walcountians in midweek, but the hard work doesn't stop there. We still have 10 league games to play and we need to show the same intensity and desire to win as we did in the last 15 minutes on Tuesday night.

"There was a real togetherness around the squad [on Tuesday], especially when we were under the cosh at times, so the players need to take that same unity and vigour into today's game against Frenches [Athletic]. We need to get a result."

For supporters and football enthusiasts travelling to Alwyns Lane by train, the nearest rail station is Chertsey, which is a c. 15-minute walk (via Guildford Street and Windsor Street) to the ground. You can plan your journey here.

For those travelling by car, Alwyns Lane football ground offers very limited parking, which is principally for players and match officials. Therefore, spectators are asked to park with consideration in the neighbouring residential streets.

The A3 at junction 10 of the M25 will be closed in both directions this weekend due to a demolition of a new bridge. The closure started at 9pm yesterday (7 March) and will go through until 6am on Monday (10 March), so please plan an alternative route if you normally use the carriageway to travel to and from Alwyns Lane. Go to National Highways for more information.

Admission charges apply for the fixture: £5 (concessions £3). For more information, click here.
