Dial are just 90 minutes away from reaching their first county cup final when Steve Brown's side travel to neighbours Addlestone today. 1:30pm k.o.
It comes after The Stones were reinstated into the Surrey FA Saturday Intermediate Cup last week following Battersea Ironsides' premature exit from the competition after fielding an eligible player in the quarter-finals.
The stage is now set for Dial to go one better than they did back in 2022 when they lost 2-1 to RC Old Boys (at Addlestone Moor) in the semi-finals of the Surrey FA Saturday Junior Cup after conceding a late a penalty. Old Boys went on to win the cup that year after beating Pavletico Rovers 6-5 on penalties (full-time: 2-2) in the final.
With three trophies still up for grabs, Brown is hoping his side can continue their rich run of form in the county cup, having already beaten Parkside (6-0), Worplesdon Phoenix (6-1), Tonghan (6-0) and Horsell (2-1); three of which were away from home.
In stark constrast, there has been an air of good fortune regarding Addlestone's journey to reach the last four, after they received a bye in the first round, before beating Surrey Casuals 5-3 on penalties (full-time: 0-0) and Cranleigh 3-0 at home, to set up another home tie against Battersea Ironsides in the previous round. Today marks their fourth home tie in a row.
Despite The Stones hovering just two points above the drop-zone (albeit with games in hand over many teams) in the Surrey Premier County Football League table, previous outings between Dial and Addlestone been been closely fought affairs, the most recent being a 0-0 draw at Jubilee High School back in October 2024.
Brown is pleased to welcome back Charlie Marshall to the fold after the striker-turned-defender missed Dial's strenuous 0-0 draw away to Battersea Ironsides a fortnight ago. Experienced defender Matt Bunyan is also expected to return to the squad just five weeks shy of his 40th-birthday, due to the unavailabilty of Aidan Doran and Ben Vassell.
County cup rules also preclude Danny Taylor, Louie Rogers, Ross Ewen, Harry Rice, Harry Laflin, Darren Xavier, Salvatore Federico, Brad Sweeney and Sam Bello-Balogun from competing against Addlestone, while George Lawrence has signed for Hersham.
Speaking to DialSquareFC.com ahead of the tie, Brown said: "We had a good training session in midweek and worked on a few areas that we want to take into this weekend's game.
"With a place in the county cup final at stake, I'm expecting Addlestone to make it very difficult for us and on a pitch that is inherently uneven and difficult to move the ball around on.
"That said, we have competed well on some tricky playing surfaces of late, and have shown that we can mix-up our style of play.
"It's always disappointing to be without so many players who are either unavailable or ineligible to play, but I'm confident in the squad to put in a performance and let the rest take care of itself," added Brown.
There is no admission charge for today's semi-final fixture. Furthermore, no dogs are permitted into the grounds of Jubliee High School, except for service dogs. Free parking is available onsite. You can plan your journey here.
In the other semi-final tie, Worcester Park booked their place in the final after a 4-0 win over Keens Park Rangers last Saturday (7 March), which Dial or Addlestone will face in the final at Meadowbank on 29 April.
