DIAL RETURN TO FACE ARCH RIVALS

DIAL RETURN TO FACE ARCH RIVALS

Andy Fitzsimons14 Feb - 06:21

Game management will be tested on boggy pitch

** Pitch Inspection Required ** (10am)

Dial are hoping to be back in league action this afternoon (14 Feb) when Steve Brown's side are scheduled to make the short trip to Laleham at the Recreation Ground. 2pm. k.o.

Following the 2-1 win away to Horsell in the quarter-finals of the county cup eight days ago, today's outing (subject to a pitch inspection) will be Dial's fourth consecutive league fixture away from home.

Despite winning the Surrey County Intermediate League (Western) League last season - to gain promotion to the Surrey Premier County League - Laleham (formerly Laleham & Kempton until 2024) have struggled to make the impact that many expected at the next level.

They are currently languishing in the relegation zone after taking just nine points from a possible 39. And to rub salt into the wound, they and were also eliminated by Horsell (2-1) in the second round of the county cup.

The last time the two sides met was at Alwyns Lane back in September 2025, with Harry Rice scoring both Dial goals to secure the points. However, the form guide is likely to go out of the window in what will be the ninth derby clash (eight league and one cup) which has never been short of goals.

Dial's only previous visit to Laleham Recreation Ground was in March 2024, resulting in a closely fought 3-2 win for Brownie's side during their double-winning season.

Brown is expected to make several changes to the squad that lost 4-1 away to Tooting & Mitcham United U23s a fortight ago, with George Mead, Callum Abraham-Barlow. Matt Hayes (injured) and Samuel Bello-Balogun all unavailable.

It paves the way for veteran keeper and coach Andy Rider to make his first league start since retiring last season, while Charlie Marshall, Louie Rogers and Ross Ewen are also expected to return to the starting XI to face the villagers.

Speaking to DialSquareFC.com ahead of the fixture, Brown said: "I'm expecting another tough game against Laleham on a difficult playing surface.

"It's important that we stamp our authority on the game early on, as both teams need the points for different reasons."
