Dial return to Alwyns Lane this evening (9 April) for their penultimate home fixture of the season when Steve Brown's side welcome Richmond & Kew. 7:45 k.o.
With promotion to step 6 already in the bag, Brown has no intention of taking his foot off the gas as Dial look to finish the highest they can in the table from their remaining three league fixtures.
Although Richmond & Kew currently lie 10 points above the relegation zone, there's still a possibility that they could get dragged into it if they lose their remaining four fixtures (incl. today), all of which are away from home.
Since gaining promotion to the Surrey Premier County Football League (SPCFL) from the Kingston & District Football League Premier Division, tonight's visitors have conceded more goals (61) than any other side in the SPCFL. It comes after two crushing 7-0 home defeats against Cranleigh and title-chasers Worcester Park in the first six weeks of the season.
This evening marks the third fixture between the two clubs this season, with Dial having won both previous encounters. A 3-2 away win at Ham Playing Fields in October was followed up with a 3-0 win in the quarter-finals of the Premier Challenge (League) Cup in January at Royal Holloway Sports Centre (3G) due to Alwyns Lane being waterlogged.
While Bradley Sweeney, Callum Abraham-Barlow, James Vass and Aidan Doran (injured) are all unavailable for tonight's league clash, Brown is expected to welcome back Adam Bicknell, after he took a knock against Worcester Park last week, and Charlie Marshall, who had to withdraw from the side at short notice on Monday in the 3-0 win over Addlestone.
Speaking to DialSquareFC.com yesterday (8 April), Brown said: "It's difficult to know what to expect from Richmond [& Kew] after they pushed us hard in the first [league] game, before we beat them more convincingly in the cup.
"Although we clinched promotion on Monday (6 April), we still want to finish the season strong and to achieve the best league position we can. But it also provides the opportunity to give more game-time to some of the players that have remained loyal to the club.
"Both teams still have something to play for, so I expect it to be a good game of football on a decent playing surface," added Brown.
For supporters and football enthusiasts travelling to Alwyns Lane by train, the nearest rail station is Chertsey, which is a c. 15-minute walk (via Guildford Street and Windsor Street) to the ground. You can plan your journey here.
Alwyns Lane football ground offers very limited parking, which is principally for players and match officials. Therefore, spectators are asked to park with consideration in the neighbouring residential streets.
Admission charges apply for tonight's fixture. The clubhouse will be open from just after 5:45pm.
