DIAL TRAVEL LIGHT TO RICHMOND

DIAL TRAVEL LIGHT TO RICHMOND

Andy Fitzsimons4 Oct - 06:11

Depleted squad gives boss Brown a headache

Dial are back on the road today (4 Oct.) when they travel to Surrey Premier County Football League (SPCFL) newbies Richmond & Kew at Ham Playing Fields. 2pm k.o.

Kew are one of three clubs, along with Laleham and Tooting & Mitcham (U23s), to join the league this season after they finished third in the Kingston & District Football League Premier Division (step 8) last season; five points behind winners Barnes, who were denied entry to the SPCFL.

It's not been an easy ride for the Richmond based club, who have picked up just one-point from their opening five league games, and conceded 23 goals. This includes suffering two heavy 7-0 home defeats against Cranleigh and Worcester Park as they seek an upturn in fortune.

Meanwhile, Dial will be hoping to extend their unbeaten league run to five matches following last week's impressive 4-0 display against AFC Royal Holloway at Alwyns Lane.

However, Dial will be forced to travel light to Greater London this afternoon, with no less than eight regular first team players unavailable, with Jordan Carter and Jonathan Corner both injured and George Frith servicing a one-match suspension after picking up second yellow card in the 1-1 draw against Wimbledon Casuals 10 days ago.

James Vass, Ben Vass, Dan Cenzano and Matt Bunyan are also unavailable today and Jimmy Norman is still a week or two away from making a return after picking up a knock in pre-season.

To help plug that gaps, Dial boss Steve Brown has re-signed Louie Rogers from Alton, Danny Taylor from Knaphill and ex-Ascot United and Holyport striker Harry Laflin, all of whom could be thrust straight into the starting XI against Richmond & Kew.

Speaking to DialSquareFC.com on Friday, Brown said: "I thought we gave a very good account of ourselves against Royal Holloway last Saturday (27 Sept.). I was really happy with the level of performance across the park, and keeping a clean sheet.

"This weekend could be more challenging. Richmond & Kew are still an unknown quantity at this level of football, coupled with the fact of how many players are unavailable from last week.

"That said, I have full faith with the players onboard who are more than capable of coming away with the three points," added Brown.
