DIAL TRAVEL TO SHEERS IN ADFA CUP

DIAL TRAVEL TO SHEERS IN ADFA CUP

Andy Fitzsimons20 Dec - 05:27

Brown to utilise full squad for trip to east Woking

Dial take a break from league action this afternoon when they travel to Sheerwater Reserves in the first round of the Aldershot Divisional Football Association Saturday Intermediate Cup at Eastwood Leisure Centre. 2pm k.o.

It's the first time that Dial have entered the Hampshire invitation competition, which has seen Steve Brown's side paired against arguably the strongest opposition.

The Sheers (Reserves) currently top the Suburban Football League Premier Division table, which also includes the development squads of English Football League side Bromley, as well as Woking and Aldershot Town of the National League.

Two weeks ago, the Sheers (Reserves) also beat Surrey Premier County Football League front-runners Wimbledon Casuals 2-0 in the second round Surrey FA Saturday Premier Cup.

Brown has been dealt a selection headache ahead of today's match, with Danny Taylor and Louie Rogers both ineligible (based on competition rules), and Adrian Phillips, Jordan Carter, George Mead, James, Vass. Aidan Doran, Jonathan Corner, Ben Vassell and Callum Abraham-Barlow all unavailable.

However, the Dial boss is hoping to recall midfielders Zak Hawker and George Frith, after both were unavailable during Dial's 3-1 league win over AFC Cubo last Saturday.

With no less than 10 players unavailable, Brown may decide to move Charlie Marshall back to up top to help bolster Dial's attacking options. Matt Hayes could also make his first start for Dial since returning from injury within a new-look back-four.

Speaking to DialSquareFC.com on Friday (19 Dec), Brown said, "It's far from ideal having so many playerrs unavailable, but we need to play the game to avoid having a fixture pile-up later in the season.

"I'm aware that Sheerwater could have a few players missing too, but I'm still expecting a tough game. So, for those players who have been more on the periphery of the squad, it's a great opportunity to shine to stake a claim for a shirt," he added.

For supporters and football enthusiasts travelling to Eastwood Leisure Centre today, the nearest mainline rail station is West Byfleet on the South Western Railway line, which is a 30-minute walk (1.2 miles) to the ground. You can plan your journey here.

Eastwood Leisure Centre offers ample parking for players, match officials and supporters. However, if using the neighbouring residential streets, please park with consideration.

Admission charges apply for this fixture: £5 for adults (£3 for concessions) and free for Under-16s. Sheerwater operates a no dogs' policy inside the perimeter of the ground.

The winner of today's cup tie will play Yateley United U23s (away) in the next round.
