IT'S MAKE OR BREAK FOR DIAL AGAINST CASUALS

Brown: the players need to stand up and be counted

Dial boss Steve Brown has thrown down the gauntlet for his players to put in a season-best performance tonight (24 March) when they host league leaders Wimbledon Casual at Alwyns Lane.

Brown was less than impressed with his side's lack of endeavour and game management against Worcester Park on Saturday, which saw Dial lose ground to Casuals in the title race.

With six games to go, Dial now need to win all six and hope that Casuals, Battersea Ironsides and Worcester Park all drop points over their remaining fixtures to snatch the title. However, three more wins would ensure that Dial finished in the top five (above CB Hounslow & Abbots) and eligible for promotion to step 6 of the National League System (part of the English football pyramid).

The last time that the two sides met was back in September 2025, which resulted in a 1-1 draw at Embridge Xcel Sports Centre. And the last and only time that Casuals played at Alwyns Lane was last season which saw Dial come back from 3-1 down to draw 3-3.

After losing 2-1 at home to Addlestone on 31 January, Casuals have been unbeaten in their past eight league (7) and cup (1) fixtures, keeping six clean sheets in the process. Although, they almost came up short away to relegation-threatened AFC Royal Holloway on Saturday (21 March), winning 3-2.

Brown is expected to welcome back at least four influential players for the visit of Casuals this evening, with Jordan Carter, Danny Taylor, Matt Bunyan and Tom Adag all available to play.

New signing Stephan Langley could also make his debut to bolster Dial's backline, which would free-up Charlie Marshall to return to attacking duties.

Experienced shot-stopper and goalkeeping coach Andy Rider will step-in to cover the absent George Mead. Dial will also need to make do without Aidan Doran and Callum Abraham-Barlow, who are both unavailable.

Speaking to DialSquareFC.com on Monday (23 March), Brown said: "We haven't got time to dwell on what happened on Saturday [v Worcester Park], other than the players know that the performance was nowhere near good enough.

"It's all still to play for between, in my opinion, two of the best footballing sides in the league, and the playing surface at Alwyns Lane should help to make it a good game of football to watch.

"Hopefully, the fixture helps to draw in a few more punters through the gate, who can get behind the boys to be the twelfth man," he added.

For supporters and football enthusiasts travelling to Alwyns Lane by train, the nearest rail station is Chertsey, which is a c. 15-minute walk (via Guildford Street and Windsor Street) to the ground. You can plan your journey here.

Alwyns Lane football ground offers very limited parking, which is principally for players and match officials. Therefore, spectators are asked to park with consideration in the neighbouring residential streets.

An admission charge of £5 (£3 for concessions and shareholders) will apply for tonight's league fixture. The clubhouse will be open from c. 5:45pm.
