THE 21/22 SEASON CONCLUDES FOR DIAL SQUARE

Stuart Morgan1 May 2022 - 12:27

Promotion Secured, Cup Semi-Final Agony & Eyes Towards A New Future

It’s been an eventful season to say the least, but we can now say ours is officially over.

At the start of this season, the club appointed Simon Martin as manager and with it, the club saw a huge change in squad personnel.
In fact, only one of last season’s squad members featured in the starting line up in the first league game, of the new campaign!

THE LEAGUE CAMPAIGN

During pre-season, we’d shown the strength we had in our newly assembled squad by winning every single match, against strong opposition in each of them. The future looked very bright indeed.
After a convincing 7-2 away victory in the league’s opening day fixture against Farncombe, the club then suffered its first defeat under Martin’s tenure, when they were put to the sword by eventual league winners, Laleham & Kempton.

Some highlights in this league campaign have been the emergence of Alfie Wride. A hugely important member of the team who gives nothing less than 100% in each match and has an unrivalled hunger and desire to give everything he can for Dial Square.
Mark Watkins and Nic Donaldson have been sensational and have amassed 44 goals & 10 assists between them and have been the difference between winning and losing matches on many occasions.
However, football is a team game and huge credit goes out to each and everyone of our squad who have remained with The Dial throughout this season. Thank you for your efforts and commitment.

There was also special moment from Ian Selley. The ex-Arsenal man featured 3 times for us this season and netted a speculative and sensational half-way line lob, in our 8-1 away victory over Horsley. He bagged a couple of goals and a couple of assists in his brief outing in Dial colours, but it was a huge highlight nonetheless.

By and large, the league campaign was a positive one. We have secured promotion to the Surrey Intermediate League in our first full season as a football club and that was our main objective.
We’d like to take this opportunity to congratulate Laleham & Kempton on becoming champions of the Guildford & Woking Alliance League this season. The league table does not lie and they were very worthy winners.
We’re very much looking forward to improving rivalries and relationships next season.

THE CUP RUN

We encountered the strongest possible run towards the semi-final. Tough, hard fought victories against Abbey Rangers ‘Res’, Worplesdon Phoenix ‘Res’, AFC Royal Holloway ‘Res’ and Worcester Park ‘Res’ led us to a final four tie against RC Old Boys.

It was not to be our day and we fell to a very disappointing 2-1 defeat, but we will come back stronger next season.
It was just a shame we couldn’t secure a final place or silverware in our first full season as a football club, but there will hopefully be other opportunities in the not too distant future.

AND FINALLY

The club would like to thank Simon Martin and the whole of the current squad for remaining with us through our first full-season and giving your best efforts for the Burgundy Red of Dial Square.
We’d also like to thank our sponsors for their generosity, all of the fans that have made the effort to attend match-days and to every single fan-owner, who has shown their support via Dial Square FC Enterprise. It’s been vital for us and were it not for you, we wouldn’t be able to function properly.
Ownership renewals are fast approaching, so don't forget to re-sign for 22/23.

We’d also like to thank the League volunteers, our own volunteers and all our opponents who we’ve played this season. Without you all, football just wouldn’t be possible.
As we move up the pyramid, we constantly look to make huge improvements at the club both on and off it. We look at ways we can better ourselves, our infrastructure, our personnel amongst many other things and we can’t wait to put new methods into practice next season, to make Dial Square Football Club as good as it possibly can be.

With our new ground share confirmed at Chertsey Town Football Club, we continue to push towards our targets with renewed optimism and a desire to make sure we're constantly bettering ourselves.

Our awards will be given out in due course and there is no doubt lots more to come from us over the coming months, so please do stay tuned for the latest developments at The Dial.
