Dial boss Steve Brown is hoping his side can continue their rich run of form when they travel to Saltdean United today (10 Oct) in division one of the Southern Combination Football League (Division One). 3pm k.o.
Despite not playing last Saturday, Dial are eighth in the table, with two games in hand over four of the seven clubs above them.
A win for Dial at Hill Park Stadium this afternoon, could see them move up to fourth, with Jarvis Brook and Worthing United both in cup (FA Vase) action, while Westfield (East Sussex) travel to league leaders Infinity, and Guildford City don't have a fixture. Saltdean remain one-point behind Dial, having played the same number of games.
It's the second year that today's hosts have competed in the second tier of the SCFL after they dropped out of the Premier Division at the end of the 2024/25, just three years after finishing runners up to Littlehampton Town.
United briefly moved away from Hill Park during the 2025/26 season, opting to groundshare with Premier Division club Newhaven at The Trafalgar Ground while their own ground was being redeveloped. Their first match at the new stadium facility was against Ringmer on 27 December 2025, which ended in a 1-1 draw.
For Dial, United's new 3G playing surface is likely to suit their style of play, which could make for an interesting spectacle at Hill Park as both sides seek to edge their way up the table.
Brown will be pleased to welcome back Charlie Plant and Deji Adeosun for today's trip to the south coast, after both were absent from Dial's 0-0 draw away to Reigate Priory. And with George Frith and Danny Taylor both expected to return to action within the next week, things are looking promising.
Assistant player manager Jimmy Norman is also expected to return to the heart of defence today after a three-match absence.
However, the news is not as good for striker Harry Rice after he was helped off the field away to Priory a week last Wednesday, which could see him out until January.
Speaking to DialSquareFC.com ahead of today's fixture, Brown said: "Like most teams in this division so far this season, I only know what I read about. However, Saltdean have had some decent results, particularly winning 2-0 away at Worthing United side last Sunday, who were tipped by many as favourites to get promoted, so it's likely to be a close game.
"I believe that we have assembled a really good squad of players, so we should fear anyone. It's important though to remain focused on our game plan and not get waylaid with what other teams may or may not do.
"Today is the first of three games in eight days, so there's a real opportunity to move our way up the table and close the gap on the top three ahead of Tuesday night's match [at home] against Selsey," he added.
