It was Halloween and it turned out to be a horror show of a second-half performance, in Dial Square's trip to Woking Vets, which cost the club their second away win of the season.
With Richard Hughes back in the side and a change of formation, The Dial felt confident going into the tie and this was clearly evident from the first whistle.
We pressed with intensity and managed to create some early chances for Hughesy, but uncharacteristically, he spurned three of them, that could've put us into a commanding position, inside the first 20 minutes.
The breakthrough came from new boy, Joel Paternoster. A very tidy finish after good work from Ross, who was looking threatening every time he got the ball.
The Dial didn't stop there. Again and again, they continued to make openings through the Woking midfield and it was simply one-way traffic.
Thankfully, there was another goal to cheer before half-time. Richard Hughes again being denied by the keeper' saw his rebounded effort fall into the path of Sam Donachie, who smashed home, with the goal gaping.
Half-time, 2-0 up and all was well, although it should've been a far bigger lead.
After the restart, it was clear the intensity had dropped from the away side. Despite Mo Ceesay hitting the bar with a great long-distance effort, Woking were getting onto the front foot.
Just after the hour mark, Woking pulled a goal back. Their striker latched onto a loose ball with seemingly no pressure being exerted on him from the Dial Square defence, pulled the trigger and saw his speculative effort beat Iuri Borges from 25 yards.
Game on and this is where the game changed. A change in mentality saw Dial become nervous and start to get overridden by Woking in almost every department.
An equaliser was inevitable and it came just 5 minutes later. A dubious decision regarding a throw-in by the referee allowed Woking to slot home a second and momentum was now firmly with the home side.
It started to become very end-to-end as both sides started to slug it out for the victory, but Woking looked the far more dangerous as they pressed forward for the winner.
With just 10 minutes remaining, George Newell, making his long-awaited debut for the club, conceded a free-kick in a dangerous position, outside the box. The resulting strike was a good one and found the top corner with Borges well beaten again.
There was still time for the equaliser, but the Dial Square heads had gone. When the full-time whistle went, there was a sense of devastation regarding how the team had lost, despite being the much better team for the first hour of the game.
However, it's keeping things going for 90 minutes that separates the best from the rest.
Improvements continue to happen, but there is still a lot of work to do.
