Yesterday’s 0-0 draw was the first ever for the club. It also proved enough to secure 2nd place in our first full season as a football club, after Farncombe lost to Laleham & Kempton.
That, coupled with our second clean sheet in as many games, were the only positives to take, in an otherwise lacklustre performance at Victory Park.
Chertsey Old Salesians posed a threat up front with their number 10, but our defence played well enough to limit the home team to just one real chance all afternoon. Zach Ward’s superb one-handed save made sure things weren’t a total disaster for The Dial.
At the other end of the pitch, chances were few and far between. It was a quiet afternoon for Watto and Nic, who couldn’t produce the magic they’ve shown all season, to nick a goal or two.
It was a performance which lacked intensity, which was frustrating, especially after last week’s brilliant cup win. However, things can be taken from the game that should allow the team to better prepare for the 1/4 final showdown with Worcester Park ‘Res’.
Everyone at the club would like to take this opportunity to wish Simon Martin and the whole squad huge congratulations on securing a runners-up slot at least, this season.
The build for next season starts soon, but we’ve come along way in the last 12 months, in what has been an incredible journey.
