Dial Square finally got points on the board yesterday in the ‘Premier Challenge Cup’, but an early exit is almost a certainty. A win against Manorcroft and results going their way will be the only way they can get through the group stage.
A comfortable 3-1 win over basement side Chiddingfold saw The Dial get heir first win in 3 matches, but with many missed chances in the game, didn’t really do much to show drastic improvement from recent weeks.
Johnny Phillips managed to get his debit goal to set the visitors on their way. His left foot shot was well placed and gave The Dial the lead on the half-hour mark.
They took that lead into the break and although it was a scrappy game, there was only one team in it.
The second-half started in much the same fashion, but amazingly, with an hour gone Chiddingfold we’re level through Ross Curry.
He finished neatly into the bottom corner from inside The Dial’s area.
Their joy was short lived however, when Nic Donaldson lashed in a trademark goal in the opponents box, to restore the lead for the away side moments later.
The game was over in injury time when George Lawrence got the goal of the game. His great run through the home defence and nutmeg on the keeper’ was a great way to end the encounter.
It’s now time to turn the attention to the ‘Surrey County Cup’ next week, when Dial Square travel to Westminster Casuals.
