Dial booked their place in the quarter-final draw of the Surrey FA Saturday Intermediate Cup after sweeping aside Tongham 6-0 at Royal Holloway Sports Centre this afternoon (10 Jan).
A hat-trick from Jordan Carter, and another from Daniel Cenzano, sent the hosts' packing as Dial ran riot over their Surrey County Intermediate League (Western) Premier Division opponents to advance through to the last 16.
Due to the ground frost earlier in the week, Tongham passed up home advantage to move the cup fixture from their recreation ground to the neutral venue of Royal Holloway (3G pitch) to enable the match to be played.
It took Dial just 13 minutes to open the scoring when Carter received the ball out wide, beat two men, before curling the ball into the top corner of the goal from the edge of the box to help set the scene for what was to come.
With Tongham struggling to get a foothold in the game, Cenzano was allowed to cut inside from the left wing before unleashing a 25-yard drive that wrong-footed the Liam Larby at the near post after 27 minutes.
And two quickly became three when Carter produced an almost carbon copy of his first goal to give Dial an unassailable lead on the half-hour mark.
As the Redman stared down the barrel of defeat, it was effectively game over when Liam Hayes was dismissed for a second bookable offence in the 35th-minute. A minute later, a rasping freekick from Cenzano went under the four-man wall and found its way into the bottom corner to make it 4-0.
There was no let-up for the villagers after the break when Cenzano raced in at the back post to send home Carter’s cross into the roof of the net to complete his hat-trick just one-minute after the restart.
Some great build up play to pick out Charlie Marshall gave rise to Dial’s sixth-goal. But after beating one defender and being forced wide by the keeper, Marshall unselfishly squared the ball for Carter to tap home his third from close range in the 69th-minute to complete the rout.
Speaking after the match, Brown said: “I thought the boys produced a very professional performance. Their game-management was excellent and, on another day, the scoreline could have been into double figures.
“I think Tongham had just one decent chance to score in the first half. After that, I can’t think of another time where we looked threatened.
“So, another win, another clean sheet and a place in the quarter-finals of the county cup,” added Brown.
