Dial kicked-off the new year in style today (3 Jan) after a comfortable 4-0 win away to Bagshot in the Surrey Premier County Football League.
Goals from Jordan Carter, Tom Adag, James Vass and a penalty from Charlie Marshall gave Steve Brown's side all three points in a game they never looked likely to lose.
It was an impressive display from Dial, who dominated proceedings from almost start to finish; at times having 80% of the possession, as The Baggies struggled to get out of their own half.
With Bagshot moving the fixture from Krooner Park (home of Camberley Town) to the 3G pitch at Tomlinscote Sports Centre in Frimley, it was the only league fixture to survive the deep freeze, giving Dial the opportunity to close the gap at the top of the table.
And it took the visitors just 10 minutes to get their noses in front when Carter latched onto a superbly weighted pass from Matt Hayes, before looping the ball over Marvin Wood and into an empty net.
George Frith and Marshall were then both denied by Wood in quick succession, after which George Mead was called into action to save from Baggies’ captain Abdul Samad midway through the first half.
It didn’t take long though for Dial to extend their lead when Adam Wareham upended Marshall in the box, paving the way for the striker to make it 2-0 from penalty-spot in the 28th-minute.
A promising move from the hosts on the edge of the box gave Jeremie Tchetche a great opportunity to reduce the arrears, but he skied his shot from close range after Mead had parried Levi Randell’s effort.
But Dial’s pursuit of a third-goal was unwavering, with Adag shooting wide of the target and Danny Taylor seeing his shot blocked close to the goalline after a great cut-back from Carter on the cusp of half-time.
And there was no let-up for The Baggies in the second half when Adag fired over the bar shortly after the restart.
It served as a precursor to Dial’s third goal, when full-back James Vass found himself in an advanced position before neatly tucking the ball past Wood in the 55th-minute.
And when Adag connected brilliantly with Aidan Doran’s out-swinging cross to make it 4-0 three minutes later there was no conceivable way back for the hosts.
Substitute Salvatore Federico came close to opening his account for Dial since joining from Guildford City, but his toe-poke shot under pressure was blocked by Wood.
Harry Rice and Jordan were then both denied by the post within a space of two minutes as Bagshot found themselves pinned back by a constant wave of attacks.
Unfashionably, Rice then dragged his shot wide of the far post with the goal at his mercy, before Wood got down quickly to save Carter’s low drive from the edge of the box.
However, a momentary lapse of concentration almost gifted the opportunity for Randell to claw a goal back for the hosts late on, but he blasted his shot well-wide of the target when it seemed easier to score.
The win moves Dial back up to second in the table and with a game in hand over early pacesetters Wimbledon Casuals who lie two points ahead.
Speaking after the match, Brown said: “I thought we played very well for long periods of the match and in control for pretty much the full 90 minutes.
“Sometimes when you have so much possession, there's a propensity to lose your concentration, which we need to work on, but overall I can fault the lads’ application and attitude in freezing conditions.
“There was a decent turnout for the match, who I don’t think would have been surprised if we had won by eight or nine goals given the possession and number of chances we had.
“I want to acknowledge some great individual performances too, especially from Matt Hayes, Zac Hawker and George Frith, who were superb throughout,” added Brown.
