Dial maintained their 100% home record this afternoon (5 Sept) after beating Mile Oak 2-0 to move into the top seven of the Southern Combination Football League Division One table.

Two second half goals from Adam Aziz and Charlie Plant proved to be the difference in west Woking as Dial recorded their third home win of the season without conceding a goal.

Experienced midfielder George Frith made a welcome return to action after a three-match absence. Callum Abraham-Barlow also came straight into the starting XI after missing the goalless draw away at AFC Walcountians on bank holiday Monday.

With Dial boss Steve Brown's planned absent from the technical area for the visit of The Oak, coach Jake Kennett was the marshal of proceedings from the sideline, while Assistant Player Manager Jimmy Norman was the voice of reason on the pitch.

On a hard and bobbly playing surface, Matt Hinks had the first opportunity of the game when he ran onto a great through ball but was thwarted by Alex Harris, who raced out to save at the feet of the Dial midfielder midday through the first period.

Ten minutes later, Norman rose above his marker in the box to head just over the bar from Frith's out-swinging freekick.

Hinks then tried his luck from outside of the box, but the ball bobbled just as he struck it, with the final shot failing to trouble Harris. Dan Cenzano also fell victim to the pitch when he dragged his shot wide of the far post.

At the other end, the visitors had to visit until the 35th-minute before registering a shot on goal, but Marley Ambler sliced his shot well-wide of the target from the edge of the box.

However, the Brighton-based side arguably came closest to scoring two minutes before half-time, forcing George Douglas to dive low and palm the ball away at the far post to keep the visitors at bay.

Frith was replaced just five minutes into the second half when he took a heavy knock in the box, paving the way for Joseph Apeni to enter the fray.

With The Oak rarely posing a threat in the final third, Dial always looked more likely to score. And when Cenzano flicked the ball on for Aziz to run on to, the former Southampton academy prospect coolly picked his spot past Harris from 12 yards to break the deadlock in the 69th-minute.

One soon became two when Plant broke clear of his marker on the half-way line. before making his way into the box and striking the ball beyond the outstretched arm of Harris to double Dial's advantage in the 77th-minute.

It was Dial's third consecutive clean sheet to move up six places in the table, while The Oak are still looking for their first away win of the season.

Speaking to DialSquareFC.com after the match, Norman said: "The pitch didn't make it easy to play free-flowing football, but I was impressed with how we managed the game.

"We were more direct in the second half, which ultimately led to us scoring our goals on the break. I thought our defensive shape was very good too; it has been over the past couple of games, which is testament in how we've defended as a back four to help George (Douglas) in goal.

"I still think we can be much more clinical in the final third to both create and convert more chances, but that will come as the new players become more acquainted with our style of play and the work we're doing on the training pitch.

"I want to give a shout out to Matt [Hinks], George [Douglas] and Deji Adeosun, who have all come in and done well since joining the club. They're winners; they have a great football mentality," added Norman.
